Why doesn't Riptastic! download disc/track info automatically?
It does!
But not by default.
Riptastic!'s default setting is to not use the internet automatically, so that you are always in control and aware of its internet usage.
However, you can easily change your preferences to allow automatic downloading of disc/track information.
Under the Tools Menu, select Options.
Check the option "Download CD information automatically", and disc/track information will be downloaded for you automatically every time you insert a CD.
Otherwise, you will have to click the Download Toolbar Button in order to initiate a download of CD and track information.
Please see the topic Internet Options in the User's Manual for more information.

How do I put the track number into my file names?
It's easy!
Under the Tools Menu, select Options and go to the Files tab.
Set the Generated track name format to the number format of your choice, perhaps something like %02d.
Then use the %n macro somewhere in your File name format.
That's all there is to it!
For further information, see the topic Files Options in the User's Manual.

Sometimes when ripping, I get a “buffer overflow” error. What gives?
This error usually indicates that for one reason or another, the CD-ROM drive is faster than the computer can handle.
If the CD-ROM drive is able to read data faster than the computer is able to write it to disk, you will get this error.
Please see the topic Capture Buffer in the User's Manual for details about the buffer and how to improve its performance.

Help! I just ordered a License Key and I can't register!
This is most often due to entering your name differently from when you ordered (spelling and capitalization are important),
incorrectly pasting the License Key,
or inadvertently changing the Application setting on the Registration Dialog.
Please refer to the topic Registration Dialog in the User's Manual for more information.

Why does Riptastic! always ask me to connect to the internet?
Riptastic!'s default setting is to ask you before connecting to the internet, so that you are aware of its internet activity.
You will be asked only once per session.
However, you can easily change your preferences to allow automatic connection to the internet.
Under the Tools Menu, select Options.
You can choose:
- Connect to the internet automatically—do not prompt before connecting to the internet
- Prompt before connecting to the internet—prompt before connecting to the internet, once per session
Please see the topic Internet Options in the User's Manual for more information.

When configuring WAV encoder settings, there is the option of using 16 or 8 bits per sample. What's the difference?
WAV files are uncompressed, but you have the option of storing as a 16-bit or 8-bit WAV file.
Here “16” and “8” refer to the number of bits per sample per channel.
Audio data on a CD is 16 bits, so when you save as a 16-bit WAV file, you get the exact audio data as it exists on the CD.
When you save as an 8-bit WAV, the file is half the size, but the aural quality is diminished by the loss of information, as the dynamic range is significantly reduced.
You can experiment by ripping the same track twice, once as 16-bit and again as 8-bit, and play back the resulting WAV files to compare the quality.
See the topic WAV Encoder in the User's Manual for more information.
